Section 3: SYSTEM PERFORMANCE TIPS

A.) IF DISPLAY OR GRAPHICS PROBLEMS OCCUR:

If you experience display or graphics problems while running Barbie(TM) Beach Vacation(TM):

1. Make sure that your display setting is at least 640x480 resolution and 16-bit color. Refer to your system or Windows® documentation.

2. Contact your video card or systems vendor to obtain the latest version of its video driver. (Note: the latest video drivers may be available for download via the Internet.)

3. Make sure no other applications are running while Barbie(TM) Beach Vacation(TM) is running.

4. Make sure that you do not click repeatedly on the Barbie(TM) Beach Vacation(TM) icon after double-clicking it once to launch the program.

B.) SLOW PROGRAM PERFORMANCE:

1. Use the Maximum install option (350Mb). This will run most of the program from the hard drive and improve performance.

2. If the program seems to be running slowly, make sure your system meets the minimum requirements. A system with a less than a 12x CD-ROM or a processor below the minimum requirement may not be able to play all the animations properly.

3. If your system meets the other minimum requirements, it may have insufficient RAM. The program performs best with at least 32 MB of free memory (64 MB for Windows® 2000). Close any open programs to free up RAM.

4. Your virtual memory setting may also affect the program's performance.

5. Repeatedly clicking on the Barbie(TM) Beach Vacation(TM) icon after double-clicking once to launch the program may cause slow performance. Try exiting the program, restarting your computer, and restarting the game.

6. Try adjusting your graphics acceleration:

a. Right click on "My Computer" located on your desktop and select "Properties."
b. Within the "System Properties" dialog box, select the "Performance" tab.
c. Click on the "Graphics" button.
d. Within the "Advanced Graphics Setting," adjust your graphics acceleration to the "Basic" setting (second level from the left).
e. Click on "OK" and restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

7. Save your game, exit the program, restart your computer, and then launch Barbie(TM) Beach Vacation(TM).

C.) IF DIFFICULTIES ARE ENCOUNTERED WITH SOUND (Music, Sound Effects & Dialog):

1. Make sure that the volume level is adjusted properly.

2. Make sure that your computer speakers are plugged in and turned ON, and that the volume is adjusted properly.

3. Make sure that you do not have the sound muted. Double-click on the small speaker icon in the Windows(R) Taskbar at the bottom right of your screen to check.

4. If your sound system is configured with an incorrect or outdated sound driver, the sound may not play properly. Contact your sound card or computer manufacturer to obtain the current sound driver. (Note: You may be able to download this from the Internet.)

5. Try adjusting your Read-ahead optimization:

a. Right click on "My Computer" located on your desktop and select "Properties."
b. Within the "System Properties" dialog box, select the "Performance" tab.
c. Click on the "File System" button.
d. Within the "File System Properties," adjust your Read-ahead optimization to the "None" setting.
