This one is for my friend, author Kelly Kirch, who emailed me one day shortly after
I wrote Stone and Earth and said she’d dreamed about a harpy who’d been rejected by
her people because she was pretty. Her mate was a shape-shifting gargoyle. Kelly said,
“It sounds like something you should write.” Since I was right then plotting out the rest
