Quadriceps Femoris
Origin
Rectus Femoris:
Straight head: anterior inferior iliac spine;
reflected head: groove above the rim of
the acetabulum
Vastus Lateralis:
proximal part of the intertrochanteric line,
anterior and inferior borders of the greater
trochanter, lateral lip of gluteal tuberosity,
proximal 1/2 of lateral lip of linea aspera,
and lateral intermuscular septum
Vastus Intermedius:
anterior and lateral surfaces of the
proximal 2/3 of the femur, distal 1/2 of
linea aspera, and lateral intermuscular
septum
Vastus Medialis:
distal 1/2 of the intertrochanteric line,
medial lip of linea aspera, proximal part of
medial supracondylar line, tendons of
adductor longus and adductor magnus,
and medial intermuscular septum
Insertion
Proximal border of the patella and through
the patellar ligament to the tibial tuberosity
Actions
knee extension (all) and hip flexion (rectus
femoris only)
Nerve
Femoral nerve
