Innovations offer considerably
greater performance
The compact C7-635 control systems,
which are particularly suited for the
construction of series and special ma-
chines for processing and production,
have been substantially improved. For
example, the cycle time for mathemat-
ical operations has been considerably
reduced because the floating point
commands are performed three times
faster. Furthermore, direct access to
the high-speed hardware counters
permits considerably more dynamic
performance and positioning tasks. In
short, overall performance has been
substantially increased.
The acquisition and output of signals
via the integrated digital and analog
I/Os are also more rugged and accu-
rate.

for the S7-300 CPUs can easily be
reused for the C7.
PROFIBUS included
The C7-635 compact unit has a
PROFIBUS DP V1 interface that can
be configured either as a PROFIBUS
master or slave. DP V1 enables the
acyclical transfer of data – even to
non-Siemens devices. This means
that diagnosis data and alarms from
field devices can be transferred to the
C7 or parameterized data loaded into
the field devices.
Copy protection with
Micro Memory Cards
Thanks to residual data storage on
the Micro Memory Card (MMC), C7
units function without a backup
battery and therefore require no
maintenance. STEP® 7 projects and
larger data volumes for archiving
and recipe editing can be stored on
the MMC. By requesting the MMC
serial number during program execu-
tion, an even more effective copy
protection for user software can be
implemented. In other words, great-
er security for your investment.
Rugged and high-speed
signal acquisition
The direct access to input addresses
accelerates the recording of actual
values – ideal for counting functions
and frequency measurement. Since
the maximum counting frequency
can be set for the counter channels,
frequencies above this level are fil-
tered, making the counting function
more immune to external disruptions.
Direct control of frequency
converters
The new C7 devices can now directly
control all frequency converters from
the MICROMASTER product range.
This is made possible by the addition-
al control types when positioning
using the integrated analog output.
More loadable function blocks
The number of possible block num-
bers for FCs, FBs and data blocks has
been increased to a total of 512. The
number of loadable blocks has also
been extended to 1024 (total of FCs,
