3.3 liters’ capacity, four overhead camshafts, 32 valves, two turbochargers with variable turbine geometry – available for
the V8-TDI from 1999 on, was a state-of-the-art design. Its crankcase was a high-strength, lightweight vermicular gray
iron casting. The charge air and recirculated exhaust gas were water-cooled and common rail fuel injection was adopted –
an Audi irst. With a power output of 165 kW (225 hp) and a maximum torque of 480 Nm (354.03 lb-ft), the V8-TDI was
a supremely capable, reined power unit.
