Right angle weave units, each worked vertically from South to North. Subsequent units each involve 3 beads (apart from the starting
bead for the unit). The Ñcrossing beadÒ is the one from which the thread(s) emerge(s) at the end of the unit. The ÑcompassÒ refers
to each individual unit of weave, not the entire piece of beadwork; it provides a position description for each bead in the unit.
The crossing bead for one unit is the South Ñstarting beadÒ for the next. ÑOne manÔs ceiling is another manÔs floor.Ò
When working in a straight line, North is the crossing bead. When making a 90 degree turn, either East or West is the crossing bead.
To make a 90 degree turn with two needles, one needle strings all 3 new beads, the other needle crosses through the last bead. In
other words, if you want to turn to the right (East), the left needle strings the beads; to turn left (West), the right needle strings.
Note that when making a 90 degree turn with a single needle, sometimes you have to pass again through 2 beads, sometimes 4,
depending upon whether the unit must be worked clockwise or counterclockwise. In other words, determine whether you want to
emerge on the right (East) or left (West), and just keep circling until you get there.
