I’m married to John. We have three children and three grandchildren - two grandsons and one granddaughter.

THE POSSESSIVE CASE

Formy dzierżawczej rzeczownika używamy, gdy chcemy powiedzieć że coś do kogoś należy. Do rzeczownika w liczbie pojedynczej dodajemy końcówkę -‘s.

It’s John’s family. It’s his family.

W liczbie mnogiej do rzeczowników zakończonych na -s, by utworzyć formę dzierżawczą dodajemy sam apostrof ( ‘ ).

These are my daughters’ toys.

W przypadku konstrukcji złożonych z kilku rzeczowników, końcówkę -s dodajemy do ostatniego z nich.

This is Mary and Fred’s house.

Kolejność wyrazów w zdaniu z formą dzierżawczą rzeczownika jest inna niż w języku angielskim. Właściciel występuje na pierwszym miejscu.

Dona’s books  - książki Dony

George’s plants - rośliny Georga
