Welcome back to the world of Qin, the time for heroes is
past; now the time of legends is upon you.
Contents
There are a few things we noticed on translating the new
material that we thought might be worth noting here.
They are not errata or mistakes, simply helpful references
to the main book and other considerations that will help
make the most of this supplement.

• Many of the times are listed as being in ‘small hours’
or ‘double hours’. This refers to the Chinese way of
counting the hours in the day. Each ‘small hour’ is equal
to one hour, and a ‘double hour’ is the same as two hours.
Further detail can be found in the Core Rulebook on page
184.

• The original measurements are listed in metric scale
and translated into Imperial. So meters became yards
and kilos became pounds. We have continued this for
the sake of consistency, but those familiar with metric
measurements might like to convert back again.

Heart of Jade was gazing at the small necklace and its
remarkable stone when she heard Xian’s chocking cry.
Followed by Three Truths, she ran towards the back of
the cave to ind the young
wu xia
stretched out on the
ground, holding his chest and trying to recover his breath.
His fallen torch casting lickering shadows as it rolled
across the loor, threatening to go out completely and
plunge the cave into complete darkness. Still gasping for
breath, Xian raised himself on his elbows and pointed to a
heavy crimson curtain against one of the stone walls.
While the
fangshi
helped the young man to stand,
Heart of Jade carefully moved to the heavy curtains and
parted them with the end of her dagger. A large iron ball
shot out from the gap as she, intuitively, stepped back
out of its path. Grabbing hold of the curtain she pulled it
hard, forcing it away from its support, revealing a wide
entrance to a second cave. Two enormous silhouettes
could be seen, dimly lit by a brazier, holding heavy
chains weighted by iron balls. With animal grunts the two
naked giants moved forward into the main cavern, just as
Xian’s torch inally gave it’s inal licker of light and died.
Darkness took over the room, the only light now
remaining was the dying embers in the stone urns. The
three companions drew back defensively ready to ward
any ensuing attack. Their adversaries advanced slowly,
whirling their terrible weapons over their heads, now they
had more space to handle them. The sinister whistling of
the iron balls reverberating under the stone vault.
A weak gleam of light warned Xian in time as he
sprang to one side, avoiding the giant’s death blow,
allowing him to keep out of his opponent’s reach.
Heart of Jade took the opportunity to close with
Xian’s assailant, but the second warrior brought down his
weapon towards her. She tried to dodge out of its path,
narrowly avoiding the blow as the weighty ball crashed
into the ground, shattering the black lagstone beneath.
“They’re quicker than they look in spite of their size!”
Xian said.
“And the darkness doesn’t seem to be bothering them,”
added Three Truths.
Heart of Jade remained quiet, alert to the slightest
change in the rhythm of the monotonous music of her
enemies’ weapons.
The
fangshi
moved quietly to a stone urn and looked
into the leather pouch at his side, drawing out a sealed
bamboo tube just as Xian avoided another powerful
attack. Breaking off the wax stopper, Three Truths
quickly threw the ine white powder it contained onto
the dying embers. Suddenly the ire rekindled, throwing
light against the roof of the cave and allowing the three
companions to see their adversaries more clearly.
In front of them stood two identical, naked, giants.
Their heavily muscled bodies home of many scars –
many old, but several seemingly very new. Xian’s face
expressed his disgust as he saw that the eyelids of the
twin giants had been sown up, condemning them to
everlasting darkness, yellow discharge still leaking from
the crude stitches. But the strangest thing was the total
lack of expression on either of their faces, as if their spirit
was not present in this time and place.
“Now we’re on equal terms,” said Three Truths, as he
added a little more powder to the embers.
Guided by the sound of his voice, the two giants
launched their attack on where they thought he was. The
exorcist could only meet the irst ball with his wooden
sword, which shattered and lew into pieces with the
force of the impact. Xian’s quick action saved his life
as the
wu xia
delected the lethal path of the second ball
with the point of his sword. With jerking movements
their opponents were recovering their weapons. Acting
instinctively, Heart of Jade and Xian took this brief
respite and launched their own offensive.
With the greatest of ease, Xian threw himself over the
giant he was facing, executing a dangerous, yet perfect,
leap – no doubt practiced many times in training. Landing
noiselessly behind the colossus he raised his sword in
a metallic arc which cut into the exposed lesh. Only
rewarded with a weak grunt the giant turned to retaliate.
Heart of Jade seemed to glide, rather than run, towards
her opponent. In a lash she was next to him, raking
his powerful body with her two daggers. Once again,
the expected reaction did not come and, in spite of the
lowing blood, the giant did not even stagger.
“These monsters don’t feel pain,” shouted Three
Truths. “Strike quick and true to cut them down.”
Then, the divine and deadly dance began. With the
giant’s long weapons useless in hand-to-hand combat, the
twins tried to entangle their adversaries in the links of the
chains, brandishing them as much in defence as in attack.
Heart of Jade and Xian whirled around them, parrying
and riposting, all the while looking for openings to strike
a vital part. Then, the
fangshi
felt the energy of the Tao
low towards the two ighters. He saw his companions
suddenly quicken the rhythm of their movements. Xian’s
sword was weaving complex patterns, tracing lines of ire
around him as he warded off each attach and forced his
opponent to draw back with the force of his blows.
With his feet irmly planted on the ground, the
wu xia
at last struck a violent blow, breaking the chain with the
noise of thunder. His reddening blade biting deeply into
the skull of the giant who, at once, stopped moving and
collapsed like a tree struck by lightning.
Heart of Jade was performing her own elegant and
deadly dance around her adversary. The giant’s parries
becoming less and less effective. For a moment, Three
Truths thought he glimpsed a cloud of metal butterlies
luttering in the middle of the combat and the young
woman merging with an image of a dragon. The blades
of her daggers scored bloody furrows across her enemies
body. Then, as suddenly as she had started, Heart of Jade
froze. With blood pouring from multiple wounds, the
colossus, after a moment of stillness, collapsed.
The two warriors looked at each other in satisfaction.
“Two interesting styles. I think that neither of you have
yet told us about your abilities or origins,” Three Truths
observed, dryly.
