On the cOver Paula, Bobby and Jamie Deen explore Savannah’s
Wormsloe Historic Site. The breathtaking avenue sheltered by live oaks and
Spanish moss leads to the tabby ruins of Wormsloe, the colonial estate of
Noble Jones (1702–1775). Jones was a physician and carpenter who arrived
in Georgia in 1733 with James Oglethorpe and the irst group of settlers from
England. Wormsloe’s ruins are the oldest standing structures in Savannah.
Today, visitors can talk with uniformed interpreters and view a museum with
artifacts unearthed at Wormsloe, as well as a short ilm about the site and
the founding of Georgia. A scenic nature trail leads past the tabby ruins to
a living-history area where, during programs, demonstrators in period dress
exhibit the tools and skills of colonial Georgia.

To help you make the most of your trip to Georgia, the Georgia Department of
Economic Development has put together this 2011 Georgia Travel Guide . Within
these pages, the state is divided into nine regional sections, each packed with
useful information on attractions and lodging throughout the state.
Even though the information has been veriied, we encourage you to call
ahead when planning your trip to conirm the very latest hours of operation,
fees, reservations and other information.

maps, including state parks and historic sites. For more information on these

trAveL ServiceS Each region features a Visitor Resources section where
you will ind information on the convention and visitors bureaus, chambers of
commerce, state visitor information centers and local welcome centers. Within
the attractions, you’ll also ind Travel Services, which list operators for various
types of guided tours, from ghost walks to canoe trips.
