25 .Godmadetheanimalsoftheearth
aftertheirkind,andthecattleafterthe-
irkind,andeverythingthatcreepsonthe
groundafteritskind.Godsawthatitwas

26 .Godsaid,Letusmakemaninourima-
ge,afterourlikeness:andletthemhave
dominionoverthefishofthesea,andover

everyherbyieldingseed,whichisonthe
surfaceofalltheearth,andeverytree,
whichbearsfruityieldingseed.Itwillbe
yourfood.
30 .Toeveryanimaloftheearth,andto
everybirdofthesky,andtoeverything
thatcreepsontheearth,inwhichthereis
life,Ihavegiveneverygreenherbforfood.

31 .Godsaweverythingthathehadmade,
and,behold,itwasverygood.Therewas
eveningandtherewasmorning,thesixth

7 .YahwehGodformedmanfromthedust
oftheground,andbreathedintohisno-
strilsthebreathoflife;andmanbecamea
livingsoul.

eastward,inEden,andthereheputthe

everytreetogrowthatispleasanttothe

garden;andfromthereitwasparted,and
becamefourheads.
11 .ThenameofthefirstisPishon:this
istheonewhichflowsthroughthewhole
landofHavilah,wherethereisgold;
12 .andthegoldofthatlandisgood.The-
reisaromaticresinandtheonyxstone.
13 .ThenameofthesecondriverisGi-
hon:thesameriverthatflowsthroughthe
wholelandofCush.
14 .ThenameofthethirdriverisHidde-
kel:thisistheonewhichflowsinfrontof
Assyria.ThefourthriveristheEuphrates.
15 .YahwehGodtooktheman,andput
himintothegardenofEdentodressitand
tokeepit.
16 .YahwehGodcommandedtheman,
saying,Ofeverytreeofthegardenyou
mayfreelyeat:
17 .butofthetreeoftheknowledgeof
goodandevil,youshallnoteatofit:forin
thedaythatyoueatofityouwillsurely
die.
18 .YahwehGodsaid,Itisnotgoodthat

andbroughthertotheman.
23 .Themansaid,Thisisnowboneofmy
bones,andfleshofmyflesh.Shewillbe
calledWoman,becauseshewastakenout
ofMan.
24 .Thereforeamanwillleavehisfather
andhismother,andwilljoinwithhiswife,
andtheywillbeoneflesh.
25 .Theywerebothnaked,themanand
hiswife,andwerenotashamed.
7 .Bothoftheireyeswereopened,and
theyknewthattheywerenaked.Theyse-
wedfigleavestogether,andmadethem-
selvesaprons.
8 .TheyheardthevoiceofYahwehGod
walkinginthegardeninthecoolofthe
day,andthemanandhiswifehidthem-
selvesfromthepresenceofYahwehGod
amongthetreesofthegarden.
9 .YahwehGodcalledtotheman,andsaid
tohim,Whereareyou?
10 .Themansaid,Iheardyourvoicein
thegarden,andIwasafraid,becauseIwas
naked;andIhidmyself.
11 .Godsaid,Whotoldyouthatyouwere
naked?Haveyoueatenfromthetreethat
Icommandedyounottoeatfrom?
12 .Themansaid,Thewomanwhomyou
gavetobewithme,shegavemeofthe
tree,andIate.
13 .YahwehGodsaidtothewoman,What
isthisyouhavedone?Thewomansaid,
Theserpentdeceivedme,andIate.
14 .YahwehGodsaidtotheserpent,Be-
causeyouhavedonethis,cursedareyou
aboveallcattle,andaboveeveryanimalof
thefield.Onyourbellyshallyougo,and
youshalleatdustallthedaysofyourlife.
15 .Iwillputenmitybetweenyouandthe
woman,andbetweenyourospringand
herospring.Hewillbruiseyourhead,and
youwillbruisehisheel.
16 .Tothewomanhesaid,Iwillgreatly
multiplyyourpaininchildbirth.Inpain
youwillbringforthchildren.Yourdesire
willbeforyourhusband,andhewillrule
overyou.
17 .ToAdamhesaid,Becauseyouha-
velistenedtoyourwife’svoice,andhave
eatenofthetree,ofwhichIcommanded
you,saying,Youshallnoteatofit,cursed
isthegroundforyoursake.Intoilyouwill
eatofitallthedaysofyourlife.
