Section A - Similar words with different pronunciation

As you listen to the following pairs of related words, pay special attention to the differences in pronunciation. In some cases the difference is one of word stress or the sounds may change, or both. You will hear each word twice, once by an American speaker and once by a British speaker.

Section B – Stress in Words ending in –ic and -ical

Words which end in -ic are stressed on the syllable immediately before the ending, the second-to-last syllable. Words ending in -ical or simply in -al are stressed on the third-to-last syllable. Pay special attention to word stress before the endings. You will hear each word twice, once by an American speaker and once by a British speaker.
