Assist 4.0
INSTALLATION SCENARIOS
There are basically two scenarios possible for installing Assist in a
workshop, either "standalone" or "network-based". Which type of scheme
is best depends on the local situation, but network installation is usually
better, except in very small workshops.
Standalone PC
The Assist Program consists of two main parts: a "client" module, with
which the user interacts directly, and a "server" module, which works in
the background and takes care of reading or writing the requested
information from the different locations where it may reside.
In the case of a standalone system, i.e. one or more separate PCs, both
the client module and the server module are installed on all PCs, and
also the Assist databases will have to be copied to all PCs that have to
run Assist. PDF documents (mainly Service Manuals and Bulletins) can
be kept on the DVDs or can, if there is enough hard disc space, be
copied to the hard disc of each PC (Document Cache). Each PC should
have Internet access to update its databases separately.
