************************************************************************* * Steinberg SMP 24/2 Multimedia Driver Installation * ************************************************************************* This Steinberg SMP 24/2 driver is supported by Windows 3.11 and Windows 95. To configure Windows for Steinberg SMP 24/2, perform the following: 1. SETUP WINDOWS 3.11 ===================== 1. Run Windows 3.1 or 3.11 (i.e. type WIN<enter/return>). 2. Open the Main program group. 3. Double-click the Control Panel icon of the Main Window to display the Control Panel. 4. Double-click the "Drivers" icon in the Control Panel. 5. Press the "Add" button, and select "Unlisted or updated drivers". Select Drive A: or Drive B: (the drive, which contains your driver disk), change the directory to "\WIN311" and press OK to install the "Steinberg SMP 24/2" driver. 6. If an older version of the driver is present, select "New" to overwrite the old version. 7. Setup the IRQ and base address and press the "Reset SMP" button to check your settings. Use this button to reset the SMP, if necessary. Now restart Windows. If you want to use the the SMP 24/2 Synchronization facilities repeat point 1 to 4, select the "Steinberg SMP" driver and press the "Setup" button. Press the "Synchronization.." button to get the Synchronization dialog. The driver provides one MIDI input "SMP SMPTE" for MIDI timecode via "SMPTE IN" from the SMP 24/2. Mark the "SYNC On" field to activate this input. If you want to write SMPTE via "SMPTE OUT" edit the "SMPTE offset" field and press the "Start" button in the "Write SMPTE" box of the dialog. ************************************************************************* 2. SETUP WINDOWS 95 ===================== 1. Run Windows 95 2. Click the Start button on the Taskbar. 3. From the menu that appears, select "Settings" and then "Control Panel". 4. In the Control Panel, double click on "Add New Hardware". 5. Click the "Next" button. 6. Click "No". 7. Click "Next". 8. In the list that appears, select "Sound, video and game controllers" and click "Next". 9. Click "Have Disk". 10. Insert the floppy disk with the SMP interface driver on, into the disk drive. Select Drive A: or Drive B: (the drive, which contains your driver disk), change the directory to "\WIN311" and click OK. 11. In the Select Device window that appears, make sure the correct interface is selected in the list, and click OK. 12. Click "Next". 13. The SMP-Dialog will appear. Change the Base Address or IRQ settings. Click the "Reset SMP" button to check the new settings. 14. Restart Windows 95. => Making Base Address and IRQ Settings <= ==================================== If the Base Address and IRQ (or other) settings on the MIDI interface do not match the settings in Windows, your MIDI Interface will not function properly. Furthermore, if two MIDI (or other) interfaces in your computer use the same base address and/or IRQ, you might get other problems with your computer (it might not run properly at all!). Therefore it is very important to make sure that the settings on the SMP interface are really in accordance with the setting in Windows and that the SMP interface does not "conflict" with any other hardware in your computer. 1. Click the Start button on the Taskbar. 2. From the menu that appears, select "Settings" and then "Control Panel". 3. In the Control Panel, double click on "Multimedia". 4. Click the "Advanced" tab at the top. 5. Click the "+" button just before the text "MIDI Devices and Instruments", in the list. 6. Select one of the SMP ports in the indented list that appears and click "Properties". 7. Click Settings in the new dialog 8. The SMP-Dialog will appear. Change the Baseadress or IRQ settings. Click the "Reset SMP" button to check the new settings. 9. If the Hardware Settings have been changed restart Windows 95 => Synchronization <= =============== If you want to use the the SMP 24/2 Synchronization facilities repeat point 1 to 7 and click the "Synchronization.." button to get the Synchronization dialog.
