Tutorial 2: Circular Orange pendant

This tutorial shows how to create a pendant
constructed over a circuar armature fabricated with
18 ga (or 16 ga) wire. Over this armature, 28 ga
wire is used to attach several beads using three
different methods.
Step 1: Shape the circle
Using 18 gauge wire, a simpe 0.5 inch circe was
constructed by wrapping it around a wooden dowel
or a thick knitting neede. A tail of approximatey
0.35" was eft for the oop.
Step 2: Form the loop
Using the round nose piers, create a smal oop at
the top of the circe. Notice how a smal portion of
the circe is overapped. The direction of the oop and
the circe are aso important, the overap shoud
remain to your eft if you are right handed (and
reversed if you are eft handed).

Step 3: Flatten the shape
Using a chasing (ba-peen) metaic hammer over an
anvi, fatten the entire piece a bit, making the
structure more rigid. Open the shape a bit to have
access to al portions of the armature.
Step 4: Re-shape the armature and attach thin
wire
Cut a 2 feet ong piece of 28 ga wire (you can use 26
aso, but its a bit trickier to work and beads need to
have arge hoes). Attach the wire to the eft of the
oop (if you are right-handed) by coiing it around
the armature two or three times. You wil work in
cockwire direction.
Step 5: String in two beads
Sip in one arger bead (shown in copper) and one
smaer bead (shown in siver). Take the wire back
through the arge copper bead, forming a oop.

Step 6: Pull tightly to form a picot
Now comes the tricky part -- the wire must be pued
tighty, without etting the beads oose. To do so,
hod the two beads as cosey as possibe to the
armature with your eft hand, whie puing the wire
tighty with your right hand (if you are right handed).
This forms a picot, which is paced usuay around
the edge of an armature. Pass the wire behind the
armature, to form the next picot.
Step 7: Form the second picot
AForm another picot right next to the first one. Keep
them as cose together as possibe.
Step 8: Form picots around the entire circle
Form picots around the entire edge of the circe. It is
preferabe to have an even number of picots
however, it is not fundamenta. Sometimes the size
of the armature (as in this case) does not aow for
even picots.

Step 9: Start attaching the second row of beads
When you reach the beginning, start a new ayer of
beads: string in one pearl and wrap the wire around
the armature, sipping it between the oop and the
first picot and puing tighty.
Step 10: Attach another pearl
String in another pearl and wrap the wire around the
armature, sipping it through the first and second
picots.
Step 11: Complete a full circle of pearls
Attach a ful circe of pears around the armature.
Depending on the size of the pears, you may require
ess pears than copper beads. To compensate for
the smaer size of the inner circe of pears, skip one
or two copper beads. When you reach the beginning,
coil the wire around the armature once or twice to
secure it.

Step 12: Add a third row of beads
Start attaching the smaer seed beads in between
the pears and copper beads. String in 4 or 5 seed
beads (amount depends on size of seed beads and
pears) and sip the wire carefuy through the oop of
the pear. Genty pul the wire tight.
How many seeds are required? You shoud form a
nice, rounded scaop shape around the pear. If you
added too itte or too much, dont worry: you can
compensate on the second and ast scaops by
adding or subtracting one seed bead.
Step 13: Form a full row of scallops
A ful row of beads was then attached to the
armature.
Step 14: Attach the center bead
To finish up the scaoped seed bead row, coil the
wire around the armature a few times, taking the
wire to the very top, under the oop. Sip the arge
focal bead to the center and attach the wire to the
bottom portion of the armature by coiing a few
times.
