Bear Pattern: Snow White
Designed by Carn Charlick this cute little ted is oozing with charm
Misty just loves having fun! His sculptured face and inset eyes add to his cheeky expression. Created from cream-coloured mohair this
firmly-filled ted is fully posable and looks great sitting or standing. When finished Misty stands at 30cm (12”) tall and will complement any
collection. This pattern requires some intricate detailing and is suitable for bear makers of an intermediate level. If you start sewing today this

5. Stuff the head firmly, paying particular attention to the nose. Only fill the
rest of the head when you’re happy with this part. Push the neck joint into
the opening of the neck, then with strong double thread, put running
stitches along the bottom. Pull tightly and secure well. Check the shape of
the head then use your thumbs to push in the fabric where you wish to
place the eyes. Use glass-headed pins as a guide, then using an awl make
holes for their position. To fix the eyes you will need a long doll-makers
needle and very long, strong, double thread. Place the needle through from
the back of the head at the neck, up and out at the eye hole. Thread it
through the loop and back into the eye again coming out about 5mm away
from where you started. You should now have four long threads hanging at
the neck. Pull and tie them very tightly so that the eye sinks into the head
making a socket.
7. Sew the ear pieces and turn. Over sew at the raw edges and place the
ears onto the head with pins. Take your time and make sure they are even.
Attach them to the head with ladder stitch. Embroider a square-shaped nose
with a long needle or a thin darner. Thread with black cotton perle and tie a
knot. Start at the centre of the nose and pull the knot through the packing
until it disappears, the satin stitch to form its shape.
YOU WILL NEED
• 1/4 metre of mohair
• Matching ultra-suede for the pads
• Five sets of 36mm cotter-pin joints
• One pair of 9mm glass eyes on loops
• Black perle cotton for nose and claws
• Filling
• Long doll-makers needle
8. Joint the bear using cotter-pins and hardboard discs. Use an awl to pierce
the body at the joint positions and turn the body right side out. Place a
cotter-pin, disc and washer into the arm and out at the hole. Put the joint
through the hole in the body then add another disc and washer. Using long-
nosed pliers open the pins then grab one side and curl round to make the
joint tight.
STEP BY STEP
1. Transfer all the pattern pieces onto thin card. Note the direction of the
pile and mark all the necessary holes and openings. Ensure that the pile of
the fabric is running in the right direction and lay all the pieces on to the
back of the fabric. Mark round each piece with a fine felt tip or biro. Cut
around each shape using small pointed scissors being careful to only cut the
backing.
9. Now you can begin stuffing. Fill the arms fairly firmly making sure that
there are no lumps or holes, then sew up each opening with ladder stitch.
Finally give you Misty a gentle brush and lots of love!
TIPS
• Trim around all the pieces, about half a 1cm (1/4”), before sewing up to
ensure smooth seams.
• Chop sticks make excellent stuffing tools.
• Don’t be afraid to draw sewing guide lines, especially around the foot
pads and nose.
2. When all the pieces are cut out, take the two body halves and pin and
sew the dart in each side. Pin and sew the two halves, leaving an opening at
the neck and back. Next take each leg in turn and fold it in half with right
sides together. Pin and sew leaving an opening for the joint. Fold the foot
pad in half lengthways and mark on the top and bottom of the pad on the
inside of the fabric. Use these pen marks to place the pad inside the foot at
the toe and the heel, then gently ease the sides in pushing the fur in as you
go. Slowly hand or machine sew the pad into place. Turn and check that
both pads are the same shape.

4. Pin and sew the paw pads to the arms at points C and D then fold the
arm in half inside out. Pin and sew the arms all the way round, leaving a
gap for the joint and stuffing. Place the two sides of the head right sides
together. Pin and sew from points A at the nose to X at the neck. Then take
the gusset, fold it in half lengthways and mark the centre of the nose. Place
this mark on to the seam of the two sides, and pin to keep in place. Sew the
head in two halves, from the nose to neck each side. Turn the right way and
check the overall shape. It is very important that the seam running down
the chin is central.
