Apricot Roses

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Cream Card: CEM04.
Scraps of Orange, Green, Deep Blue and Pale
Blue Paper.
Creative Paper: SR128P Happy Birthday and
SR159P Leaves.
Glitter Vinyl: PZL00U-51 Gold.
3mm Quilling Paper: Bright Green and Brown.
Peel Off Stickers: ZL713U-50 & -51 Dots,
XL500U-01 Borderlines and XL660U-01 Corners.
Silver Ink Pad or Marker Pen.
Paper Punches: PPW506 Small Daisy and
PPW404 Leaves.
Hole Punch and Cocktail Stick.
Tracing Paper, Pencil and Embossing Tool.
Quilling Tool and Ribbler.
Craft Knife, Cutting Mat and Ruler.
P.V.A. Craft Adhesive: PVA01.
Card Mount: SF03U-23 Deep Green.
TO MAKE THE CARD:
Cut a piece of cream card to 90mm x 140mm.
Place the birthday paper so the words go up to the
right (as main picture above), measure and mark from
one corner of the birthday paper to 75mm along both
edges then place a ruler on both marks to cut off a
diagonal corner.
Do exactly the same for the leaf paper and stick
them onto opposite corners of the cream panel align-
ing the edges carefully. Stick this panel centrally onto
the card front.
Cut 3mm wide strips of gold glitter vinyl and stick
along the inside edges of the paper corners to cover
the join line. Add a narrow gold sticker line along
each glitter strip, over the paper.
Use a medium gold sticker line to make a border
around the outer edges of the panel and add a large
corner sticker onto the cream panel at the top right
and bottom left.
Place a piece of tracing paper over the actual size
picture, mark a line along each leaf vein, and just
a small dot at the centre of each rose and daisy.
Mark the position of both diagonal glitter lines and
the side edges of the panel. Place the tracing in
position over the cream part of the panel on the card
aligning the marked edges and use the embossing
tool to indent the leaf and flower marks onto the card.
These will give you a good idea of where everything
fits in.
Punch four leaf sprays from medium green paper
(if using the multi punch listed, use the medium size
leaves only) and glue them into place on the card
using the guide marks.
The rest of the pieces are best glued into place in
conjunction with each other to get their placement
correct so make all the pieces and assemble later.
Make eight leaves from bright green paper, mix the
sizes slightly by using between 6cm and 8cm lengths
of paper. Wind each strip into loose coils and pinch
to an eye shape. These are for the leaves that lay flat
on the card (i.e. not the three in the centre).
Make four roses, draw around a 2p coin and cut
out. Cut this like a spiral into the centre. Place the

outer end into the quilling tool and wind up, glue the
coil onto the centre. Punch 6 circles using the hole
punch and stick these to the back of the rose in an
overlapping ring to make the outer petals.
Make three larger leaves as before but using 10cm
lengths of bright green paper. Lightly dab the ink
pad to the top of each leaf to give it a silver edge.
Use the ribbler to corrugate a brown strip, cut in-
to 6cm lengths and have this handy for curling into
shape as needed. This can be done by hand or you
can gently wind it on a tool and allow to open.
Punch six each of pale and medium blue daisies
and glue the pale over the deep offsetting the petals
so both colours show. Shape the petals up a little
as you place these later.
Actual Size
ASSEMBLING THE SPRAY:
Exact positioning is not important and your pieces
will be slightly different in size and shape to mine, so
just get them in about the right places and let it flow.
Attach the pieces using dabs of P.V.A. on the back
applied with a cocktail stick.
Start at the bottom of the spray. Stick two largish
leaves from the assorted size batch onto the card
as shown. Make a curl and add to the card tucking
and shaping a daisy onto the end as shown.
Add the lower of the group of three roses tucking
a leaf under the right hand side,
then add the rose above and a lit-
tle to the left, and the leaf just to
the right of it. Leave the last rose
in this group for now.
Place the two leaves just to
the right of the top rose. Add the
top rose and the two daisies just
above and below it, then add the
three large silver edged leaves
with the tops over the rose and
daisy as shown. Tuck the last rose
of the group into place and add
the two daisies near the centre.
Add the last three leaves at the
top, making and attaching the two
curls as you go. Add the last daisy
on top of these leaves and over
the ends of the curls.
Add a mix of pink and gold glitter dots to the
centre of each daisy to complete the card.
Below: Paper punched flowers work very well along-
side a mix of quilled leaves, paper roses and quilled
flowers, offering a different look to a totally quilled
design. This ‘ideas’ panel shows a few punched flow-
ers and quilled pieces that I think look lovely together.
