The route of the Sudelfeld-Bergstrasse dazzles with its beautiful route configuration and wonder-
ful views. Wide spirals, turns and bends with an average gradient of 8.5% lead through the sump-
tuous green of alpine pastures. On the summit of the Sudelfeldsattel at an altitude of 1,130 metres
you will be overwhelmed by the view of the Inn Valley’s mountains, especially the wild and rugged
Kaisermassiv. Journeying on towards Brannenburg you will find a break at the Alpengasthof
Feuriger Tatzlwurm worth your while.
How to get there: From the Northwest along the B307 via Bayrischzell.
The toll gate is located a short distance outside Brannenburg. Daily 8:00 -18:00. The toll is €2.00 per day for motor vehicles.
Outside the stated hours the use of the road is free of charge
Useful information: Section of the Deutschen Alpenstrasse (German Alpine Road). In earlier times hill climb races took
place on the Sudelfeld-Bergstrasse between Bayrischzell and the Sudelfeldpass.

The Feurige Tatzlwurm (Fiery Dragon) is a popular destination along the German Alpine Road. If
you believe the legend, a fire-breathing dragon was living in the gorges behind the roaring water-
fall. Today he is waiting to greet guests, captured within the ceiling painting of the cozy restaurant
of the Feuriger Tatzlwurm. The shade of the chestnut garden offers magnificent views across the
Inn Valley towards the Kaiser Mountains. The menu ranges from simple snacks and classic
Bavarian dishes and up to exquisite game and fish creations always in accordance with the season
and tradition.

The Waldherralm is a traditional Bavarian Alpine dairy farm lodge with prize-winning Bavarian
sweet dishes. During the drive to the isolated lodge you cannot fail to discover the narrow country
lanes of the picturesque villages in the region of Wackersberg. Situated in the beautiful Isar Valley,
this region extends across a high plateau from the turquoise waters of the Isar in the east and the
towns of Zwiesel and Blomberg in the west. The plateau is bordered in the south by Brauneck and
the Benediktenwand Mountain.

The impressive hydroelectric power station Walchensee with its moated castle and high-pressure
pipelines is visible over a long distance. In 1924 the waters of Walchensee powered a turbine for the
first time. Today the power station with its annual production of around 300 million kWh is still one of
the largest high-pressure storage power stations in Germany. It owes its output to the huge mass of
water and the fall of 200 metres between the lakes Walchensee and Kochelsee. A new information
centre was built directly next to the power station. The building is hewn from the hillside opposite the
power station and houses a restaurant and exhibition rooms.

Kesselbergstrasse
Between lakes Kochelsee and Walchensee

The route of the Kesselbergstrasse is a well-developed pass winding its way in curves and hairpin
bends between the lakes Kochelsee and Walchensee. It offers magnificent views of Walchensee
and the rock faces of the Wettersteinwand and the Karwendel Mountains. At the beginning of the
20th century it provided an almost ideal racing track for the still-young motor sport. Legendary races
with some of the most famous drivers took place here for the first time in 1905 and then after a lon-
ger interval again from 1928 to 1935.
Type: Wide, well-developed, entirely secured pass.

How to get there: From the North via the B11 and Kochel am See.
Useful information: The southbound lanes are closed to motorcycles at weekends.

The dark green mountain lake Walchensee with its first-class waters is situated against the impres-
sive background of the Karwendel and Wetterstein Mountains. In good weather the Herzogstand
mountain on the northwesterly shore offers views across the Alpine foothills with the lakes of Upper
Bavaria almost to Munich. Walchensee is a paradise for wind and kite surfers due to its good wind
conditions.

The Sylvenstein dam was built in the 1950s. On the one hand it generates energy by waterpower
and on the other hand it eliminates the risk of flooding between the cities of Bad Tölz and Munich.
During construction the village of Fall sank into the dammed waters of the river Isar. The reservoir
forms an impressive, but not obtrusive part of the mountainous landscape. The well-developed
winding road along the northern shore of the green-blue reservoir leads northwards to Tegernsee
or southwards over the Austrian border to Tyrol.
Wallbergstrasse
Between Kreuth and Rottach-Egern

The Wallbergstrasse is a narrow and winding pass leading up to the middle station of the mountain
railway Wallbergbahn. It provides fantastic views of Tegernsee and the Tegernsee Valley. The
Wallbergstrasse was regularly used as a racing course until the end of the 1980s. Here, just as at
the Kesselberg Mountain, legendary races with some of the most famous motor racing drivers took
place. In winter the Wallbergstrasse forms the bottom section of Germany’s longest toboggan run.
How to get there: From the South follow the B307, then turn off to the right app. 3 km after Kreuth. From the B307 please fol-
low the signs to "Wallberg".
Toll: The toll is €3.00 per day for motor vehicles (cash point for coins, EC or credit cards not accepted).
Useful information: Former hill climb racing course with magnificent panoramas of the Kreuth and Tegernsee Valley.
A mountain inn and a free parking lot can be found at 1,120 metres altitude. During the winter months and with sufficient snow
the Wallbergstrasse is used as a toboggan run.
