Instructions for use
Pro
Important: Read these instructions carefully before using this device. If you have any
questions or problems with the product, please contact your healthcare provider or
Philips Respironics Customer Service at (inside the US) 1-800-962-1266, or (outside
the US) +1 724-387-4000.
– Do not allow unsupervised children or physically challenged individuals to use the unit;
– Do not turn off the unit by simply pulling out the plug from the electrical outlet.
8. Make sure that the electrical rating shown on the rating plate on the bottom of the unit
corresponds to your main voltage and frequency before plugging in the device.
9. If the plug on the power cord cannot be inserted into the electrical outlet, use only a
certified electrician to change the plug. Do not use any adapter, simple or multiple,
and/or extension cord.
10. Do not leave the unit plugged in when not in use. Unplug the device from the electrical
outlet when not in operation.
11. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installing the device. The manufacturer cannot
be held responsible for any damage caused by incorrect installation.
12. The power supply cord cannot be replaced by the user. In case the power supply
cord becomes damaged, contact Philips Respironics customer service for replacement
(there is no service option).
13. The power supply cord should always be fully unwound in order to prevent overheating.
14. Before performing any cleaning operation or filter replacement, disconnect the device from
the main supply by unplugging it or by turning the main supply switch OFF.
15. Some parts are small enough to be swallowed by children. Do not let unattended children
have access to the unit.
16. If you no longer use the device, dispose according to the local regulations in force.
17. Remember to:
– Use this device only with medications prescribed by your doctor;
– Use the accessories recommended by your doctor;
– Use the nose piece accessory only if expressly indicated by your doctor and do not insert
into nasal passage. Place close to the nasal openings and breathe normally.
18. Verify that the medications prescribed by your doctor can be used with common
compressor nebulizer systems for aerosol therapy.
General information
Pro is a compressor nebulizer system for aerosol therapy. Pro is supplied with the
Jet Pro nebulizer.
Double-valve system
The double-valve system is shown in Fig. B. During the inhalation phase, the inhalation valve
(Fig. B16) opens automatically by the patient’s breath. This additional air flow (Fig. B17) is
combined with the air flow generated by the compressor, thereby increasing the nebulization
of the medication, as well as the volume effectively inhaled.
During exhalation, the inhalation valve (Fig. B16) closes, thus preventing the dispersal
of medication into the environment, while the exhalation valve (Fig. C19) opens, thereby
allowing exhalation.
Caution
1. Use the device for its intended purpose as described in these instructions for
use as a compressor nebulizer system for aerosol therapy. Follow your doctor’s
instructions. Follow your doctor’s instructions. Any other use constitutes improper
use and may be dangerous. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for any damage
caused by improper, incorrect or unreasonable use or if the unit is connected to electrical
installations not complying with safety regulations.
2. Keep this manual for future reference.
3. Do not operate the unit in the presence of any anesthetic, inflammable mixtures, oxygen or
nitrogen monoxide.
4. Correct device operation can be affected by electromagnetic interference that exceeds
the limits indicated by the European standards in force. If this device interferes with another
electrical device, remove it and plug it into a different electrical outlet.
5. In case of failure and/or malfunction, read the “Troubleshooting” section. Do not open the
compressor housing as this product is not serviceable.
6. The proper function of the device can be compromised if original replacement parts
(e.g., filters) are not used.
7. When using any electrical appliance, certain important safety measures must always be
followed, including the following:
– Use only manufacturer-supplied original accessories and components;
– Never submerge the unit in water as the device is not protected against water penetration;
– Never touch the unit when your hands are wet or moist;
– Do not leave the unit outdoors;
– Place on a stable and horizontal surface when operating;
– Make sure the air vent openings are not obstructed;
Device safety system
Thermal protector
The device contains a temperature protector which will turn the device OFF if it overheats.
A red light illuminates when the thermal protector has been activated.
Allow the device to cool down for at least 40 minutes before pushing the
ON / OFF button back ON (Fig. A2).
Instructions for use
Remove the compressor from carrying case before use.
Examine the unit before the first use in order to check for possible shipping damage.
When taking a treatment, sit upright and relaxed at a table.
1. After unpacking the device, check the compressor and accessories for visible damage or
defects such as cracks in the plastic housing which could expose electrical components.
Contact Philips Respironics customer service or your product distributor to report any
damaged product.

2. Before using the device, proceed with the cleaning operations as described in the
“Cleaning and disinfection of the accessories” section.
3. Open the nebulizer (Fig. A9) by turning the top counter clockwise (Fig. D).
4. Make sure the baffle is properly positioned inside the nebulizer chamber (Fig. E).
5. Pour the prescribed medication into the medicine cup (Fig. F). The graduated scale can
be used to verify the correct medication volume.
6. Close the nebulizer by holding the bottom and turning the top clockwise, making sure that
the unit is thoroughly closed.
7. Connect one end of the air tube to the nebulizer (Fig. G.), and the other end to the air
outlet on the device (Fig. A4).
8. Use the Jet Pro nebulizer, with inhalation valve, only with the mouthpiece containing the
exhalation valve. If a nosepiece or mask is used, remove the mouthpiece and connect the
nosepiece or the mask directly to the nebulizer (Fig. I).
9. Plug the compressor into the electrical outlet, making sure the electrical rating shown on
the rating plate on the bottom of the unit corresponds to your main voltage.
10. To start the treatment, switch the device ON by pressing the ON / OFF switch (Fig. A2)
located in the front of the device to the “I” position.
11. Breathe normally using the prescribed accessories. The masks and mouthpiece are
designed to be used with your normal breathing technique.
12. When the treatment has been completed, switch the unit OFF by setting the switch
position to “O” and disconnect the plug from the electrical outlet.
13. Wash the nebulizer and accessories as described in the “Cleaning and disinfection
of the accessories” section.
14. When dry, place the nebulizer, accessories and power cord inside the carrying case
(Fig. A15).
Replacement of the nebulizer
The nebulizer should be replaced after a long period of inactivity, or if it is obstructed by dry
medication, dust, etc. With normal use, your nebulizer should last at least six months.
Use original manufacturer-supplied nebulizers only.
Replacement of the filter
The Pro filter is to be replaced after approximately 500 hours of use, or when it appears dirty,
gray or brown, or if it gets wet. Open the filter holder (Fig. A5) and replace the filter with a new
one. Do not clean and reuse the filter.
Use original manufacturer-supplied filters only.
Do not use the device without the filter.
Troubleshooting
The device does not turn on:
1. Make sure the plug is firmly fitted to the electrical outlet.
2. The thermal protector may have been activated by the following reasons:
a. The device may have been operating for too long;
b. The device was used near a heater or in a hot environment;
c. The air vent openings (Fig. A7) are obstructed and do not allow for the motor ventilation;
If this is the case, set the ON / OFF switch to “O” and let it sit for at least 60 minutes.
The device does not nebulize, or the nebulization is weak:
1. Make sure the ends of the air tube are tightly connected into the main unit and onto the
nebulizer.
2. Check whether the nebulizer is empty or overfilled with medication (maximum 15 ml).
3. Check whether the nebulizer nozzle is obstructed.
4. Check whether the baffle is inserted properly (Fig. E).
Cleaning and maintenance
Cleaning of the compressor
Use a dry, clean cloth and mild detergents to clean the outside of the unit.
ATTENTION: During cleaning, make sure the internal parts of the unit are not in
contact with liquids and the power cord is not plugged in the electrical outlet.
If the device does not work properly after attempting these troubleshooting steps,
contact your authorized product distributor or Philips Respironics Customer Service
at (inside the US) 1-800-962-1266, (outside the US) +1 724-387-4000.
Cleaning and disinfection of the accessories
After each treatment:
The Jet Pro nebulizer, mouthpiece and nosepiece must be disinfected by boiling in water (for
maximum 10 minutes) or in an autoclave (maximum 121°C, using the autoclave instructions for
duration). It is suggested that the mask and the mouthpiece be cleaned using cold disinfecting
liquids. Dry the nebulizer using a clean cloth. After drying, connect it to the air outlet (Fig. A4),
switch the compressor ON and let it run for 5–10 minutes.
Maintenance and repairs
Never open the device. There are no serviceable parts within the unit. The compressor
requires no lubrication or maintenance.
Do not boil or autoclave the air tube or mask.
It is very important to carefully follow the cleaning and disinfecting instructions
for efficient and safe product performance.
