In t r o d u c t i o n
Fringe Fauna is the fi rst in a series of creature
books designed with one type of creature in mind. 50
unique animals for many different environments are
collected here for the fi rst time. They can all be dropped
into any campaign quickly to give your world a unique
feel from other fantasy worlds. Whether populating an
alien world or just a remote region of a fantasy setting,
Fringe Fauna makes it easy.
Fringe Fauna is designed to be used in several
ways. While many of the creatures are familiar, being
based in part after creatures in the real world, they are
all exotic. This allows the GM to present a campaign
setting unique in feel and fl avor, and give the players
the feel that they really are in a different world.
There are creatures to replace many of the
common species found in a typical world. Pets,
predator, and prey are all within. There are new
creatures for familiars, animal
“The world is a vast place, with many
undocumented dangers and creatures. I,
Andaros, Have made it my life-long quest to
record the many different beasts that wander our
lands. Over the years, I have encountered many
different creatures. Some are quite common,
and I have chosen to leave most of them from
this book. Indeed, the reader should be familiar
enough with the cat, dog, and horse. Yet there are
many regions where few travel, where nomads
and villagers rarely see strangers. Here too are
many different animals rarely seen.

many beasts, I have chosen to keep this tome a
discourse of natural creatures only. No mystic
beasts or aberrations fi ll these pages. They are
left for another book. Some animals I found
tough to categorize. For instance,
the angelfl y seems as though a
magical beast, or indeed an insect,
but is neither. Nature has created such
unique creatures with characteristics that
border on the marvelous. With that in mind, I

This small creature resembles a white fl y. It
pauses for a moment to inspect your belt pouch, then
darts off.
The fabled angelfl y is a beautiful little creature
that resembles a fl y with tiny feathered wings and a
white, furry body. The angelfl y makes a high-pitched
chirping noise, much like a bird, and has been known
to “sing” in a chorus of these chirps.
The angelfl y is one of the most loved creatures
to anyone interested in treasure, because these creatures
have the uncanny ability to fi nd large amounts of it.
They are highly attracted to gold, jewels, silver, and
any other valuable item, and have an almost sixth sense
when it comes to fi nd these things. Chances are that
if you happen to chance upon a group of angelfl ies,
you are soon to be wealthy. Likewise, it is considered
bad luck to kill an angelfl y, and typically these docile
creatures are treated with the utmost respect.
COMBAT
The angelfl y is not an aggressive animal. They
feed off of the sediment that rests on old treasure and
off of the nectar of certain fl owers. If provoked, they
will fl y away, though occasionally they will nip at an
aggressor to deter them.
