Meena: Tina, tum kaise ho?
Tina, how are you?
Tina: Mai tikh hu.
I’m o.k.
Meena: Tina, kya huva tumari banh ko?
Tina, what happened to you arm?
Tina: Main ne meri banh ko tuut diya.
I broke my arm.
Meena: yah kaise huva?
How did this happen?
Tina: Main khelthe samaya gir gayi.
I fell when I was doing Sport.
Meena: thum kya khel rahi thi?
What kind of sport were you doing?
Tina: Table Tennis. Mujhe Table Tennis khelna pasandh hai.
I like playing table tennis.
Thumko kya khel pasandh hai, Meena?
What sport do you like Meena?
Meena: Mujhe tairna pasandh hai.
I like swimming.
Tina: Accha. Tairna acchi exercise hai.
Swimming is good exercise.
Meena: Doston, kya aap sab samajha? - Friends, did you understand everything? Let's
look at some words and phrases we used in our dialog.
kya huva tumari banh ko? - What happened to you arm?
kya huva - what happened.
hona - means “to happen”.

banh - arm
Tina: Main ne meri banh ko tuut diya - I broke my arm.
Tuutna - means “to break”.
Meena: Yah kaise huva? - How did this happen?
Tina: main khelthe samaya gir gayi - I fell when I was doing Sport.
Girna - means “to fall”
Khel - mean “sport”
Meena: Thum kya khel rahi thi? - what kind of sport?
Tina: - Table Tennis.
Mujhe Table Tennis khelna pasandh hai. - I like playing table tennis.
thumko kya khel pasandh hai. - What sport do you like?
Meena: Tairna - swimming
Tina: Tairna acchi exercise hai. - Swimming is good exercise.

Tina: Let's discuss some more sport related vocabulary:
Doing sport. - Khelna.
Athletics - Khel khudh.
Swimming. - Tairna.
Running. - Dhoudna.
Base ball - It’s the same: Base ball.
I like doing sport. - Mujhe khelna pasandh hai.
Hobbies - Abiruchiyan
Thaash ke khel Mera abiruchi hai. - My hobby is Card games.
Vargh paheli mera abiruchi hai - My hobby is doing cross word.
Khana pakana mera abiruchi hai - My hobby is cooking.

Friends,
End of February or early March the festival of colors - Holi will take place. The colorful
festival bridges the social gap. People will enjoy food and company - and colors.
Holi celebration begins with lighting up of bonfire on the Holi eve. People rub colors on
each others and cheer up saying ' Bura na maano Holi hai'. Meaning " dont mind. It is

holi". Holi also gives a wonderful chance to send blessings and love to dear ones
wrapped in holi gift..
Let us now hear a conversation between Vikram and Gopal . Vikram is explaining to
Gopal about Holi.
Vikram: Arey Gopal bhaiya, Kaise ho tum?
Hi Gopal buddy, How are you?
Gopal: Main accha hun Vikram. Holi manana shuru ho gaya kya?
I am fine Vikram. Has Holi celebration started?
Vikram: Han Gopal. Tum iske pahale holi ka utsava manaye ho kya?
Yes Gopal, Have you celebrated Holi before?
Gopal: Nahi Vikram. Holi ki bare mujhe bathao na?
No Vikram. Tell me about Holi.
Vikram: Holi ek rang birange utsav hai. Yah phasal ka utsav hai. Aur Log is samaya
meim vasanth ko swagath karthe hai.
Holi is a colorful festival. It is a harvest festival. And at this time people welcome the
spring.
Gopal: Accha.. bahut manohar hai. Main bi Holi manana chahtha hun.
Good. Very interesting. I also want to celebrate Holi.
Vikram: Zaroor. Main thum ko mera dost Abinav ka ghar le jatha hun . Thum Abinav ko
mile ho kya?
Sure. I will take you to my friend Abinav's home. Have you met Abinav?

Gopal: Han.Vahan jaakar kya karna hai?
Yes. What do we do there?
Vikram: Hum Abinav ke mata pita se ashirvadh lenge. Aur vahan rang se dhoom dham
karenge. Aur bahut accha khana kayenge
We will get the blessings from Abinav's parents. And we will play with colors over there.
Also will eat very good food.
Gopal: Mmmhh.. Bahuth maza lagthi hai.
Mmhh.. seems like lot of fun.

Tina translates: Yes Gopal, Have you celebrated Holi before?
Iske pahale - means “before”.
holi ka utsava - means the “Holi festival”
manaye - means “to celebrate”
Gopal: Nahi Vikram. Holi ki bare mujhe bathao na?
Meena repeats: Nahi Vikram. Holi ki bare mujhe bathao na?
Tina translates: No Vikram. Would you tell me about Holi?
Vikram: Holi ek rang birange utsav hai. Yah phasal ka utsav hai. Aur Log is samaya
meim vasanth ko swagath karthe hai.

Tina translates: As you know (not in Hindi), Holi is a colorful festival. It is a harvest

swagath karthe hai - means “to welcome”.
