1. Installation :
The editor executable was automatically installed during the game installation.
You will find it in : C:\ProgramFiles\UbiSoft\SplinterCellChaosTheory\Versus\System\
The maps of Chaos Theory (in editor format) have also been installed.
Maybe updated versions of the editor are available on the website at www.splintercell.com.
If you download a new version, unzip it in the "Versus" directory where your game was installed. Some files will be installed in the System subdirectory, and other files will be installed in the Packages subdirectory of this Versus directory.
Before using the editor, you may want to copy the original files of Chaos Theory (this concerns the Packages subdirectory) for safety reasons.
Note : You cannot modify the original map files, if you want to do so anyway, save them with a different filename.
On the DVD, in the directory Support\VersusMapEditor, you will find two subdirectories :
- "Plugin" contain 3DSMAX plug-ins that you can install manually (copy the plug-in in the plug-in subdirectory of your 3DSMax installation directory.
- "Documentation" contains this acrobat file with a complete documentation on how to use the editor.

2. Making your maps available for other players :
Once you have done a new map, and are ready to make it available to other players, produce a zip file that contains :
* the .sdc file produced
è in Packages/Maps
* the new StaticMesh packages you may have created
è in Packages/StaticMeshes
* the new Textures packages you may have created
è in Packages/Textures
* the xxxxxx-i.utc file produced (with the same name as the map)
* the new Sound packages you may have created
è in Packages/Sound
3. Some recommandations
Please note you may use existing packages or create your own static mesh packages.
New objects can be created (and included in new static mesh packages) either by converting brushes or by combining existing static meshes. Use convertToStaticMesh feature to do so... please see related documentation. You may also create objects on 3DSMax and import them via the editor.
You need to have the game "Splinter Cell Chaos Theory" installed in order to use the editor. And you need to have the CD of the game in the drive in order to playtest the map you have produced.
- Do not erase or rename the original packages and maps of the game or it may be damaged
and you will need to reinstall the game.
- You won't be able to connect if you don't have exactly the same maps and packages than
the other players in the network session.
- Be careful to have unique names for all packages, maps, objects etc...
- The name of the maps should be 5 characters long with 3 caracters and a number on 2 characters.
E.g. : "MUS08"
