fiat presented their Punto evo at the
frankfurt Motor Show, with a bi-fuel (CNG) CNG
euro 5 option included in the range. The vehicle
represents an evolution of the Grande Punto, also
available currently with CNG options. The bi-
fuel natural gas-gasoline variant produces only
115 g/km of Co 2 and fiat says has ‘record low
running costs of under 4 euros per 100 km’.

In its 2nd quarter report, fuel Systems Solu-
tions, Inc. (fSYS) , an alternative fuel systems
provider, reports the likely prospect of doubling
the number of conversions over the previous year,
from nearly 58,000 units in 2008, up to 120,000
units. Mariano Costamagna, Ceo, said, “Our
expanded delayed original equipment manufac-
turer (DOEM) capacity delivered record quarterly
systems installations of 37,000 [up from 30,000
in first quarter] and our business is on track
to exceed 120,000 conversions in 2009.” The
report says demand for alternative fuel vehicles
is strong in europe and will undoubtedly return
worldwide as global markets improve.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences
(AIIMS) has decided to replace its 7 battery operated
buses with CNG-powered minibuses to improve
its transport facility, reduce traffic congestion and
overcome battery-charging downtime. The buses
will be used to ferry many of the 12,000 staff on
the one kilometre route between the Institute’s oPD
Block and the parking area.
In Italy, CNG variants also attract the highest
government incentives: 5,000 euros if combined
with a contribution for scrapping an older car.The
new model goes on sale in the second half of
october.

for the first time at the Caravan Salon in Dus-
seldorf aCNG recreational vehicle or campervan,
has been presented. Added to the Avanti box
series by La Strada, the vehicle is based on the
fiat Ducato 3.0 Natural Power 16 v, with power
output of 100kW (136 hp). equipped with five
under-floor gas cylinders with a volume of 220
liters (37.4 kg CNG) the vehicle has a range of
about 400 kilometers; the reserve of 15 litres
should be enough fuel for another 100 km.

The first of 27 new CNG buses began trans-
porting omnitrans passengers. With their arrival,
the transit agency completed the transition to
a 100% alternatively-fueled fleet, a journey that
began in 1997.

Announced by Malaysian Human resources
Minister Dr S. Subramaniam, the ‘Train and Place’
program has been allocated more than 1 million
ringgits (USD 285,000) to train 25 youth as instal-
lers of NGv systems and 150 more as mechanics.
Through partnerships with local private colleges,
the ministry aims to create a pool of skilled workers
and reduce dependence on foreign workers, he
added. Quoted in the Star online, Dr Subrama-
niam said “The 175 trainees will complete their
training in November and will likely be employed
in December”.
“Omnitrans embraced CNG bus engine techno-
logy early on as part of our commitment to being
environmentally friendly,” said Ceo/General
Manager Durand L. rall. “With this purchase, we
are replacing the last of our diesel buses as well
as our first generation of CNG buses.”

The monthly NGv sales rate in Sweden has
increased from about 150 to over 700 units
since the market introduction of new models,
including the volkswagen Passat TSI ecofuel
and the Mercedes Benz B 170 NGT. In June, the
new Passat accounted for 68 % and the B 170
for 24 % of the total NG passenger cars sales
in Sweden. Then follow vW Touran, vW Caddy,
opel Zafira, Mercedes e 200 NGT, opel Combo,
and fiat Punto. Within the van segment volkswa-
gen Caddy accounts for some 45 % of the total
sales, followed by opel Combo, vW Transporter,
fiat fiorino, vW Pick-Up, Iveco Daily, and fiat
Doblo.
The 40-foot long transit buses cost $525,500
each and are manufactured by New flyer Inc.
of Winnipeg, Canada with final assembly in
Crookston, Minnesota. funding sources include
the federal Transportation Administration, Conge-
stion Mitigation and Air Quality funds, State Transit
Assistance funds and Local Transportation funds.
A grant from the South Coast Air Quality Manage-
ment District contributed $30,000 per vehicle.

PTT Plc opened a new NGv refuelling super
station in Bangkok. NGv-powered vehicle count as
of August 31 this year stood at 152,000 with a daily
consumption of more than 3,800 tonnes, repre-
senting a fourfold rise over the beginning of 2008.
Today, PTT runs 343 such stations, 174 of which are
in Bangkok and its perimeter, and PTT has grown its
high-efficiency NGv truck fleet to 1,120, raising the
volume of NGv transport as well.

The number of private cars running on CNG has
risen 43% year-on-year. IGL, the city’s only CNG
supplier, states there are now 175,313 private CNG
cars, a major step up from 122,485 twelve months

45,000 today, thanks to the government policy of
free NGv equipment retrofitting in taxicabs using
the money derived from the oil fund.

The state-run Bangladesh road Transport Corpo-
ration has taken a credit for Taka 500 million (USD
7 million) from India to buy 100 buses powered by
CNG in order to replace its old fleet of transport.
Syed Abul Hossain, Bangladesh Minister of
Communications, confirmed that the government
has already embarked on new initiatives to acquire
500 more buses with financial support from the
India.

station was designed to serve 4,500 small vehicles
and 1,500 buses and trucks each day, or a daily
volume of 200 tonnes.
Hossain informed that the evaluation process
of bids entered the final stage for the purchase of
100 CNG buses, with additional financial assi-
stance from Nordic countries as Norway, Sweden,
Denmark, Iceland and finland. These nations
are offering loans worth about USD 30 million to
implement the “Clean Dhaka Project.” 10 car manu-
facturers in India, China, Japan and South Korea
have participated in the tender.
In addition, the officer said that the Ministry is
seeking support from the economic Development
Cooperation fund of South Korea for the purchase
of another fleet of 300 buses powered by CNG.
At present, the Corporation does not have natural
gas vehicles in its current fleet of 170 units of
single and double floor circulating in the Asian
country’s capital.
Assemblers and manufacturers of motor vehicles
from october 1, 2009 must incorporate to the
Imported Assembly equipment for vehicles regime
(MeIv), all the components and accessories for the
NGv system to be installed in vehicles authorized
by the Ministry. for them there are not assigned
the import permit, however, have to obtain permits
before the Permission and Public Attention office
for the incorporation of NGv systems to MeIv
regime.
Moreover, the normative states those assem-
blers, manufacturers and importers of vehicles,
and also Petroleos de venezuela SA (PDvSA), who
wants to install and import equipment, components
and storage accessories for gas vehicles system,
must obtain the Technology Use Conformity from
the energy and Petroleum Ministry.
By the end of 2009, PTT says it plans to expand
the number of refueling stations to 400 nationwide,
half of which would be located in Bangkok and its
perimeter. It also predicts that by the year end the
number of NGv stations in which the private sector
invests would rise to 50 from the current number
of 32.

PakistaN
Pakistan’s federal government has reportedly
approved a new bus project that could see 1700
CNG buses on Karachi’s streets in the current year,
100 of which will be resourced directly by the city
government. The federal government will give
a subsidy of rs 300 million (USD 3.6 million) for
1600 CNG buses. only those companies running
25 or more buses will receive the subsidy.
Peru
A poll carried out by the University of Lima at
the end of July recorded 55.7% of taxi drivers in
Lima and Callao fuel their vehicles with natural gas.
The second most-used fuel was diesel (25.3%),
followed by LPG (13.7%) and gasoline (5.3%).
68% of drivers were using vehicles manufactured
in the previous decade (1991 – 2000), according to
a report by radio Nacional.
NiGeria
Nigeria and an Iranian company are collabora-
ting to introduce a new fuel technology that permits
the use of CNG and gasoline in cars on the roads of
the African country. Chairman of ABG Group expla-
ined that the introduction of CNG in the country’s
market will reduce the cost of fuel for cars by 40%.
The executive reported that Nigeria has more than
3 hundred trillion m3 CNG untapped, which is why
a delegation of companies from Iran is visiting the
country to see the feasibility of CNG, and even
plan to travel to the Nigerian city of Ajaokuta where
a mother station would be built.

recently, Xinzheng CNG refueling station built
by Zhengzhou Gas fuel Co.,Ltd. was officially
opened. It will supply enough CNG for 600 CNGvs
every day.

The new CNG refueling station was designed
to supply 15,000 cubic meters every day and
5,500,000 cubic meters each year with a total
investment of 7,000,000 yuan. There are more
than 380 taxis in Xinzheng City, Henan Province.
The new CNG refueling station is not only meet the
needs of taxis, but also meet the needs of some of
buses and other vehicles.
ChiLe
The Brazilian oil giant Petrobras officially
launched its operations in Chile with the aim of
increasing its market share in this country, com-
mencing with the opening of a service station
in Santiago. According to vilson reichemback,
manager of Petrobras Chile, the firm plans amongst
other measures, to encourage the use of CNG as
a vehicle fuel by the local market.
Garba noted they are planning to install about
25 mega refueling stations across the country
equipped with 30 pumps, six of which will be
available for loading the gaseous fuel. The idea
is to have 10 of such stations in Abuja and other
15 in Lagos, in order to solve the problem of fuel
in Nigeria with regard to the queues and the high
price. The stations will have a large space for about
540 cars; half of it will be devoted to the conversion
of vehicles to the dual system.

There are more than 180 taxis have been con-
verted into NGvs since the station was put into
operation.

Petroleum is dictating rules for granting authori-
zation to suppliers, technology use conformity
and import permits of equipment, components,
