Cheery Sunflowers

This card was inspired by a previous com-
petition winning card (Hazel Gowers, Summer
2000) although I have used a completely different
method to produce the flowers. The centres of
the sunflowers are made from black sandpaper
for texture but get the paper backed type if you
can as the fabric backed kind is impossible to
cut through!
Materials Required:
Natural banana paper 14cm square or any
Natural coloured hand made paper with
added ‘plant bits’ will do.
Scraps of Dark Green mulberry paper: M09A4.
Black sandpaper 3cm x 8cm.
Brown corrugated card 5cm x 12cm.
Small amount of Yellow corrugated card.
keeping them a little away from the edges of the
paper at each side, fix them into place.
Garden collage sheet: CS003.
Small scissors or craft knife.
Cut three thin stems about 4.5cm long and
3mm wide from green mulberry paper. Using
the glue stick, glue one stem centrally onto each
pot making sure not to leave any gap between
the stem and pot. Tear out six rough leaf shapes,
two for each sunflower and stick them into place
using the glue stick.
An ‘office type’ single hole paper punch.
Glue stick, ADH07 and extra tacky glue, ADH02.
Card mount: DEC6U-56, Textura Ivory.
To Make The Card:
Roughly tear the banana paper to 12cm
square, and stick it centrally onto the card using
the glue stick, don’t overdo the glue as banana
paper is fairly transparent.
Cut out three 15mm diameter circles from the
black sandpaper using an old pair of scissors and
stick onto the stems using dots of hi-tack glue.
The petals are made from the punched circles
from an ordinary hole-punch. I tried using a dou-
ble punch but mine bent the edges of the ‘petals’
too much, the single punch didn’t do this. The
amount of punchings that you will need depends
on the size of the punch, which may vary slight-
ly. Arrange the petals first around the sandpaper
middles before sticking so you can see how they
need to be spaced. When you are happy with the
arrangement, stick down using hi-tack glue.
Use the flowerpot diagram to make a tem-
plate if required, or just use it as a guide to cut
3 flowerpots from brown corrugated card.
Using hi-tack glue,

Lastly, decorate with items cut from one of
the garden collage sheets, I have used a snail and
butterfly and there are several other items on the
sheet which would look just as good.
