Welcome to the 2011 Arkansas Tour
Guide. See for yourself why The Natural
State is an ideal place for adventure
year-round. World-class fi shing, hunting
and wildlife watching abound on our
lakes and rivers. Museums and historic
sites chronicle Arkansas history. Golf
courses and scenic byways showcase
Arkansas’s most enduring feature – its
natural beauty. Restaurants and lodging
can be found around every bend.

Ouachitas – World renowned for an
abundance of unique natural treasures,
this region boasts sparkling lakes,
crystal-clear rivers, dense forests,
naturally thermal waters in Hot Springs
National Park and a diamond mine.
Ozarks – Towering bluff s loom over
the Buff alo National River and other
streams. The mountainous terrain
kept much of the region isolated, even
into the 20th century, preserving folk
traditions of early settlers.
River Valley – Three of the state’s
highest peaks – Mount Nebo, Petit Jean
Mountain and Mount Magazine – are
found in this region. Arkansas Wine
Country is located here.
Timberlands – The region’s
woodlands and wetlands are a haven
for hunters and anglers. Forestry has
been a staple of the area’s economy
since pioneer days, and oil and natural
gas discoveries over the years have
fueled development.

Six Geographic Regions
Each of Arkansas’s six geographic

Central – Arkansas’s capital city,
Little Rock, is located here on the banks
of the Arkansas River, where it anchors
the state’s largest metro. Little Rock’s
River Market District is home to the
Clinton Presidential Center and Park.
Delta – For thousands of years,
the Mississippi River has nourished
the Deep South farming culture. Two
national scenic byways wind through
