CYCLIC POWER ON/OFF - C534 FAULTY
Monitors came with no picture, but King noticed that it cycled power on and off and switched regulator transistor Q503 was getting hot. Horizontal output transistor Q507 had good drive, but output was distorted and shut off within a few seconds. No direct
Units with SN above 4292109 have improved C534.
CYCLIC POWER ON/OFF ; FAULTY R659
Click on/off.
Replaced R659 only.
R659 is the +150V divider in the B+ regulator circuit. Open R659 causes main PS regulator to cycle up and down. High R659 failures are under investigation by design groups.

DAMAGED CRT/CABINET; SPACE BETWEEN CRT & BEZEL
Lower part of CRT face is separated from Bezel. Maybe due to shipping. Double sided tape between CRT face & bezel is separated.
From P. Sanchez and P. Nguyen. Bend CRT (4) corner mounting brackets to correct angle. Reassemble using replacement double sided tape.
TD investigating long term solutions from CRT and design engineers. SB C/P 210 provides additional correction procedures.
DEAD, NO HV; IC901 FAILURE
No power. No high voltage.
Replace IC901. Old PN is 875939980. New PN is 874901436
Refer to SB C/P No. 178 for information on improved CPU PN.

INTERMITTENT BAR ACROSS SCREEN & SHUTDOWN; D603/Q602
Unit has shutdown problem, after a black bar appears on screen. Mostly happens when unit is warmed up or AC input reduced below 90VAC.
Discharge D620 and replace D603/Q602. Unit works OK with AC Input reduced to 60VAC with isolation transformer. This correction was tried on 10 units with this problem.
Failure of limit Diode D603 causes Q602 PS Output damage.

LOOSE DEGAUSS COIL & OSD PROBLEM
Top degaussing coil which is secured by double sided tape fell off. On screen display is jumping from center to side on color screen. Found S1802/1803 rocky and shorted out.
Replaced S1802 and 1803. Tied top degaussing coil in place by tie wrap, unit works fine. Second unit with same problem.
Some units have tape contaminated by oil from the CRT shield. Preventative procedures now used in production. Check any Degauss coil damage before remounting it.

NO POWER - POWER LED FLASHING; IC901 FAILURE
No power. Power light is flashing as in Aging mode. Pin 17 of IC904 has H. Sync but pin 21 of IC904 has no H. Output. Problem is the same on CPD100ES.
Replace IC901.
An improved IC901 is available per service bulletin C/P No. 178. Use PN 8-749-014-36 for replacements.

NO VIDEO, LOOSE CN309
Unit has HV and goes into power saving mode.
Found the plug at CN309 was loose. Reconnect the plug. Unit works fine. Unit is 3rd unit with same problem.
CN309 sends timing signals between A and D Boards. Check cable routing to reduce tension on connector. Technical Dept. is investigating production improvements.

PART OF PICTURE IS BLANK; FAULTY R609.
Picture reduced in H Size. After time, Horiz band of picture was blanked out. B+ voltage level was down from 150V. R609 in Q602 Source Gnd return was 0.4 Ohm (should be .22 Ohm). Resistance value increased more with time (about 10 Sec.).
Replace R609.
Faulty R609 current sensor in Q602 PS converter driver was causing incorrect current limt protection. Failed component is being checked by Technical Dept.

PARTIAL PICTURE, INTERMITTENT; Q602/D603 FAILURE
is very intermittent. If unit is put on a variable AC supply and the AC is turned down to about 90 volts the same symptoms appear. On a good unit the AC can be turned down to 60 volts before similar symptoms appear. Vien is changing D603 and Q602 which restore the AC voltage limit to 60 volts (same as on a good unit)
We continue to investigate this issue
PARTLY OUT OF FOCUS
Black and red wire comes from flyback will be plugged in J001 on a board. If we plug like it was marked on J001 unit will get dynamic focus problem.
Reverse black and red connection unit works fine.
Dynamic focus leads may be reversed in the FBT. Unit may have been tampered with.
POWER ON, THEN SHUTDOWN, FAULTY C610
Unit comes On for 1-2 Sec. with Power Button pressed. Shutsdown shortly there after. C610 is faulty.
Replace C610.
C610 sets swiching output timing for IC601 power supply regulator. Faulty C610 causes wrong PS switching frequency resulting unregulated output and shutdown. Other PS components may be damaged. PQD investigating faulty part sources with Capetronics manufacturing.

SHRINKING AND BLACK BAR IN PICTURE; Q602/D603
The black bar at middle of screen (FPR T609) & FPR T0573) prev. w/o W34G0711. Replaced Q602 & D603, the unit worked fine and confirmed on 7/27/98. On 9/22/98 unit came back with same problem, assigned to w/o W34g3419. Again replaced Q602 & D603, problem is solved. How can I prevent this problem?
SB C/P 223 has procedures to check this PS circuit. Check C620 and T601 when Q602 is replaced.

UNIT DEAD; Q507 FAILURE
Unit is dead. Shutdown condition is caused by Horiz. scan failure. Q507, Horizontal output transistor is shorted or has related failure.

BUTTONS INCORRECT, IC901 CPU UPDATE
Unit came with amber LED flashing. Was in 1 year ago with same problem. Replaced IC901 with 875953691. Unit was turned on and did MPU download. Button functions Contrast +/ - & Brightness +/- did not work correctly. Called Izzy and he found out that in older units you have to use part 875939980 for buttons to work correctly. Is there a way to tell by serial number which models need which IC ?
PN 875939980 was replaced in 11/97 by PN 874901436 now Subbed to 875953691. Use SB C/P No. 173 procedures to correct front panel push button operations.

IC603 6 PIN REPLACEMENT FOR 4 PIN TYPE
Servicer at North Starlit TV in MI ordered IC603 and received a 6 pin opto coupler. The IC in the set had a four pin device. Looked at board and there are locations for both 4 and 6 pin devices. Cannot find any documentation for the 2 devices. Servicer needs the part No. for the 4 pin device or a procedure to modify the unit to the 6 pin version.
Replace 4 Pin part with 6 Pin part as follows. 1. Remove old IC603 marked Reserved. 2. Remove the (2) jumpers installed in Pin holes for 6 Pin location marked IC603 3. Solder new part into 6 Pin location marked IC603. ...
